Friends,
The first half of this HogueProphecy Bulletin was issued to my newsletter list members just a few minutes before midnight (Pacific time) on 28 August. Hurricane Katrina was still a few hours from landfall:

PART ONE:
DATELINE: 28 August 2005
—————————————————–

I have been making the case for decades that prophecies of many various traditions recorded from ancient to modern times pinpoint a sudden and catastrophic rise in natural disasters after the turn of the millennium. In 1998, I published the following prediction in the book 1000 for 2000: Startling Predictions for the New Millennium. On page 16 of the chapter entitled “Global Warming: Hothouse Hurricanes” I said the following:

“The destruction of a major southern U.S. metropolitan area, such as Miami or New Orleans, by a global warming enhanced superhurricane will take place in one of the first five hurricane seasons of the new millennium.”

The 2005 hurricane season started early and has already experienced a record breaking number of tropical storms and hurricanes “before” the projected peak months of September and October have arrived. Ten storms plowed across the Western Atlantic, the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico   from the end of May to the end of August despite the long lull of the last six weeks. Then comes the eleventh hurricane, Katrina, appearing suddenly several days ago as a chaotic tropical depression over the Bahamas. It drinks a draft of gulf stream waters and becomes a powerful Category One hurricane sitting astride the southern tip of Florida for half a day throwing down a deluge of 13.5 inches. Then, Katrina rolls west-northwest. Its storm cells feast on 90 degree waters of the Gulf of Mexico and it grows unexpectedly fast and strong from Category One to a rampaging Category Five hurricane with sustained winds of 175 miles per hour.

The twisting cloud bands of Katrina feasted on the Gulf’s waving fields of hotter waters made so by what climatologists say is an ocean harvesting hotter mean temperatures than in past decades because of the greenhouse effect. Human-made C02 pollution traps the sun’s heat inside the atmosphere. If vitamins enhance the performance of athletes, global warming of the climate through the greenhouse effect works like lacing the vitamin tonic of tropical waters for a hurricane with steroids. Sudden and monstrous storms will arise in our times pumped up and muscle bound with 50-percent more power and stamina than hurricanes of the past.

As I write this, Katrina is on a steady track to inflict catastrophic flooding and destruction on New Orleans, Louisiana. I sincerely hope tomorrow’s events will not fulfill my prediction above.

I repeated the prediction four years and three months ago on US national television on 31 December 1999 to Shawn Hannity of Fox News Channel’s “Hannity and Colmes” talk show. I recall how Hannity bristled at my prediction that the first suped-up super hurricanes could take out a major US city any time during the first five hurricane seasons of the new millennium. I pray that he will still have grounds to continue dismissing such predictions in the next 24 hours, if it turns out that Katrina did not become the storm that flooded and devastated New Orleans. However, we are only half way through the fifth hurricane season of my prophecy and the most dangerous months are still ahead. Ominous days of runaway climate changes foreseen by the Biblical prophet Joel, may yet come soon–or a little later.

“The day of the Lord cometh, because it is nigh at hand. A day of darkness, and of gloominess, a day of clouds and whirlwinds.”

Book of Joel, 2:1 (c. 6oo b.c.e.)

Many will debate whether climate catastrophes are an act of God, or only the sum of humanity’s stupidity to overpopulate and consume their range and consequently pollute the atmosphere to abandon. I would like to hope that if a city is destroyed this year or in the coming few years by a hot house hurricane the fulfillment of this second prophecy I published in the same book will see a positive outcome, albeit galvanized by tragedy:

“The leveling of a major U.S. city by globally warmed storms will galvanize the American people to bring their resources together to fight global warming, as Americans fifty years earlier united to fight Hitler and Japan during World War II.”

John Hogue (1996) “1000 for 2000”, pg.18

May today’s Americ-“can’t” become an Ameri-“can” in the fight against global warming.

END OF 28 AUGUST ENTRY——————————-

PART TWO:
DATELINE: 1 September 2005
—————————————————–

Friends,

Reflected in the black and viscous waters of a flooding city, indelibly scoured by wind and wave in a the patchwork of the footprints of missing houses along the gulf coast, memorialized everywhere in monuments of rubble erected by 25 to 33 foot storm surges is Hurricane Katrina’s devastating legacy as the first of many hothouse hurricanes to beset our planet in the coming 50 years.

After posting my last HogueProphecy Bulletin a few hours before landfall of Hurricane Katrina,it appeared the storm made a last minute turn to the north. I was hopeful that New Orleans would not become the first major US city predicted above claimed by superstorms coming out of a runaway warming climate. Now, four days later, an entire metropolitan urban center steadily disappears under water as levies battered by Katrina’s storm surge collapse flooding 80 percent of the city.

New Orleans has fulfilled an interpretation of prophecy I hoped we would never realize.

It sets the stage for the hammer fall of another dire challenge predicted by collective prophecy. As far back as 1990, I have tried to warn people in lectures, media appearances and through books published from 1994 onwards about the Achilles’ heal of modern civilization.

The “king of terror” foreseen by Nostradamus as “descending from the skies” in “1999” may not only be a terrorist, but a terror far more all encompassing and global. The skies descend on us in catastrophe’s like Hurricane Katrina as the result of global warming.

Civilization may fall into a final world war “free-for-all” because there are too many people fighting for too few resources in a world where the climate has gone out of control because of too much fossil fuel pollution.

We are now VERY CLOSE to the tripping point of runaway global warming.

The greatest superpowers cannot long sustain their economic and political survival if in every hurricane season, one to two disasters take place such as the one we have just seen drown New Orleans and obliterate 80 miles of Mississippi and Alabaman coastline. The earth begins to strike back at us with powerful storms. Katrina is the beginning. If we do not get serious about slowing the human birth rate and eradicating our fossil fuel use, we will see more and more “Katrinas” that not only take out major US cities but whole states–whole regions of America in the near future.

Each new blow from greenhouse enhanced hurricanes may alert Americans about the necessity to get off the fossil fuels that feed these disasters–sooner, hopefully, than later or too late!

I published the following passage for “Millennium Book of Prophecy” in 1994. You can find it on pp. 64-65 of the illustrated 1994 edition and on pp. 70-72 of the text-only 1997 edition. Then as now, I meant the passage logged for the record over 11 years ago to scare us straight.   We need to limit and ultimately replace the fossil fuel technology that spews into the atmosphere the fumes of civilization’s fall into a greenhouse gas induced apocalypse:

“Climatologists believe that long before the significant rise in sea level expected by the end of the next century, the warming atmosphere will generate hurricanes and storms 50 percent more destructive than Hurricane Andrew, which splintered and flattened South Florida in 1992. A cyclone like the one that devastated low-lying Bangladesh in 1970, killing three-hundred thousand people, might recur in 2070, pumped up with winds and thunder from the future’s hotter oceans. It will kill millions.

“America’s disaster relief fund was stressed almost to the limit by the back-to-back visitation of Hurricane Hugo and the San Francisco earthquake in 1989. Imagine, if you will, tomorrow’s financial and emotional drain on a superpower like America or the European Union if every storm in an average twenty-first-century hurricane season was 50 percent more destructive than hurricane Andrew, America’s most costly natural disaster, which caused $20 billion of damage.

“On a cold November night in 1907, Swedish prophet Anton Johansson envisioned northern Europe and America racked by tremendous hurricanes. Johansson’s biographer, A. Gustafsson, tries to explain these phenomena as the prophet’s misinterpreted metaphors for the fearful winds and destruction of a future nuclear war. Gustafsson wrote this educated guess before there was any awareness of global warming.

“Johansson relates a scenario that could bankrupt a future America government through the violence of a single storm. He says that a hurricane will grow near Panama and then churn its way in a north-by-northeasternly direction, smashing into the American Gulf states and up the Mississippi Valley, gaining extra clout as it passed over the Great Lakes, rattling and rolling some of New York’s skyscrapers to the earth. He says America will not be able to restore what was lost.

“Hurricane warning systems may be called for as far north as Oslo or Vladivostok. Long before the oceans permanently reclaim the planet’s most arable river deltas, typhoons and tidal surges could leave most low-lying islands and vast tracts of coastal farmland sterilized with salt just a few years from now. Rice comprises 90 percent of Asia’s staple diet, and most of it is grown at sea level. A string of greenhouse typhoons and saltwater floods might wipe out some of Asia’s rice belts, creating famine for billions.

“Some scientists worry that global warming could begin lifting the western Antarctic ice shelf off its continental moorings as early as the year 2040. The resulting meltdown would raise sea levels by 16 to 20 feet! Most climatologists believe the rise of the sea level will accelerate after 2050. Author and futurist Dr Isaac Asimov has calculated there are eight million cubic miles of water locked in the ice shelves of Antarctica and Greenland. If we continue to flatulate greenhouse gases, this might result in a complete meltdown of these two trapped oceans of ice. Asimov believes this could cause a three hundred-foot rise in sea level, though the added gallons would push down the ocean floor, making the actual rise a mere hundred seventy to two hundred feet.

“Professor Rhoades W. Fairbridge of Columbia University says the meltdown of all that ice could cause such a shifting of weight, the Earth might spin off its axis. And as we will see a little later, many prophets believe that is exactly what is going to happen. “

Since I wrote this, some climatologists openly worry that the speed of climate change is coming faster than they once believed. Back in 1994 no one adequately factored in the sudden and dramatic increase of fossil fuels released into the atmosphere as large areas of the developed world become as prosperous and polluting as developed nations. Scientists a decade ago did not factor in their calculations how the rapid meltdown of permafrost in the Arctic might release CO2 and methane gas from vast tundra tracks of Siberia, Alaska and Canada. These are effectively the greatest carbon sinks in the world. No one now knows for certain if the dates for runaway climate disaster are coming in 2040 or 2020.

Astrological predictions from Nostradamus and other documented accurate prophets would indicate that the point of no return to a normal climate will come in the 2020s. We therefore have only 15 years or so to stop rising oceans and their superhurricanes from destroying our civilization.

It will take more hurricane blows, I fear, before the American consumer and his or her political leaders change and eventually defeat this dreadful potential future. Notwithstanding the sincere gestures of a president and country mobilizing to aid the stricken gulf region, evidence shows that neither leaders or a majority of the citizens have grasped the long term causes of this historic disaster.

New Orleans, the “Big Easy” taken down by a hurricane becomes “the big hurt” for the US economy. At least 18 percent of the petrochemical collection and distillation centers are situated around New Orleans and they are down. President Bush set in motion massive aid and promises of reconstruction. He also announced today that a waver on gasoline emission standards will now be in effect. We are told that rescinding 40 years of pollution controls that may have slowed global warming can also slow the rise of gasoline prices at the pump until the refineries around New Orleans are back in commission. I truly wonder if the president will make the waver permanent.

The president will make gasoline marginally cheaper to fuel the economy with the very same, deadly gasses that accelerate global warming with richer smog clouds of CO2 gasses that trap heat in Earth’s atmosphere and warm the oceans that will feed the next set of more powerful superhurricanes. The American president is penny wise, but pound foolish about the present and future dangers. So are most of the citizens he serves. Mother nature readies her fist to strike again and “again” to wake us up.

i was looking thru nostradamus the complete prophecies and noticed that in century X 10 Q79 that he might have been referring to hurricane katrina. what do you think?

    HOGUE
10 Q79 mentions a new “Memphis” and the language is that of seismic activity. When one sees the close proximity of Memphis to the New Madrid Fault, then this becomes a verse worth watching in the near future for an earthquake rather than a hurricane event.
