If you read my nearly 2,000 comments from readers logged mostly in the last year alone, you will find a theme of collective concern on record. As the disaster-ridden month of June draws down and prescience draws its breath before gazing into the augur’s bowl of water to divine through hydromancy, what trembling images will project upon the surface for July? I wish to address this concern.

Something doesn’t feel right, at all, for July… I do not know what will be brewing in that particular month, but it really terrifies me. I am having trouble sleeping again, in just thinking on it. On some days I almost feel like I am in a race with a giant event of some kind, looming over the horizon, or stark panic, hidden just beyond those self-encouraging thoughts. But mere thoughts cannot hold back what seems intent on manifesting…

HOGUE
Many readers report this collective feeling. I think these feelings are unique for our times because humanity itself is undergoing a global existential crisis. Our civilization is under threat from perpetuating our own fossilized traditions and stupid habits. The point of collapse for human and ecological sustainability is on the horizon. It is coming no later than the 2020s, but I think it is coming sooner. Already I have identified the year 2011 as one where alarms of unsustainable behavior begin ringing in food, weather and population sustainability. Humanity must now grow up. The world cannot long endure our immaturity and is beginning to heat us, rain us, wind us, flood us and ultimately shake us off her back if we don’t change our collectively unconscious ways.

In the last blog I opened a channel to my readers to leave comments defining what they think is Disaster Number Six for what I have begun to call the Year of 12 Disasters — one major catastrophe each month.

Up to the approaching mid-point of 2011, we had cleanly clocked one major natural or politically regional changing disaster per month. With May it started to become more difficult to choose only one a month. June is crowded with candidates. But before we tackle June which is, as the song goes, “busting out all over”, let us review the months before it burst:

January: Australian monsoonal flood inundating most of Queensland.

February: The disaster for dictators, the Arab Spring Revolutions. Then comes the Libyan Civil War.

March: Japanese superquake and tsunami.

April: Killer tornado outbreaks in the US South.

May: Historic river floods on the Mississippi then the Missouri Rivers. Hundreds killed by an EF5 tornado flattening Joplin, Missouri.

June: What a spinning Carosel! It is hard to pick one to ride. There are so many. We had an eruption of one of the worst fire seasons in the US Southwest and Southeast in June that includes the Wallow Fire becoming the greatest in Arizona’s recorded history. My pick for June’s disaster number one is a fire and smoke maker of another kind, the Chilean volcanic eruption sending an ash cloud twice around the Southern Hemisphere, disrupting air flights in and out of Australia and New Zealand for weeks. A disaster that affects worldwide climate takes my vote.

Certainly, June had other alarms to ring awake humanity to a world that will no longer tolerate it. We have the lingering nuclear disaster brewing in Fukushima Japan. A huge, wind whipped fire threatens the nuclear laboratory at Los Alamos, New Mexico, where a lot of nuclear materials are stacked in drums in the open air. Floods along the Missouri threaten the Fort Calhoun nuclear reactor near Wichita, Nebraska. This same reactor had its water coolant pumps shut down for 90 minutes on 7 June, (click on Anthony Wiener). A no fly zone was initiated by the government with the lame excuse that it protected people from flying high over the flood waters, despite the fact that Fort Calhoun’s nuclear installation was cited as the problem, not the whole Missouri flood plain.

Sunday, 26 June 2011, one of the inflatable dikes around the plant collapsed letting in flood waters. The government spokesmen said there was no problem. The next day (27 June 2011), they admit the reactor’s water coolant system is once again on backup generators but bristle at the comparison of Fort Calhoun to Fukushima.

Anyway, on 25 June, just two days before the dike deflated, Gary wrote in my comments page that the Missouri flood was June’s number one disaster adding a little Ice Age prediction as a chaser:

John my pick is the extreme flooding of the [Missouri] River. This is largely being caused by the melting of the record setting snow pack. I don’t believe it is global warming. The needed sun blocking and but the beginning of a new ice age.

[HOGUE: and but????! Well that sentence made no sense, Gary. I will have to fix it in my full reply, now the rest of your comment:]

The extreme volcanism is supposed to be the part that brings the needed sun blocking and moisture from unferwater [underwater?] volcanoes.

HOGUE
Belief has nothing to do with facts, Gary. I will go into why climate change denial is a symptom of another sign of the end of a civilization as we have known it when I get to Kercelia’s comment below. What I will explain here is that record-braking snowfall is EXACTLY evidence of global warming. A generally heating up world atmosphere retains more moisture. Moisture is the gas that drives more violent energy in weather. Scientists have often forecast, based on extrapolating their evidence, that the first stages of a warming climate change would visit record breaking snowfall in winter with record breaking fires and floods in the spring and summer. So, it looks like we are well on our way to a warming climate change cascade.

Now, to volcanic eruptions blocking the Sun’s rays causing warming to cease (I guess that is what you were trying to write.) They have to be big. Really big, like the eruption on a magnitude seen in prehistoric times at the end of the Cretaceous Era, such as the Deccan Traps. These were a series of volcanic eruptions near present day Mumbai, India, spanning a period of 30,000 years creating a 123,000-cubic mile pool of lava the size of half the Indian Subcontinent.

Other than that, eruptions at best can only press upon us ash cloud induced ice ages only a few months or a few years in duration. Even a super volcanic eruption like that expected someday in the Yellowstone region might cause a Nuclear Winter style ice age, with dust and ash clouds blocking out the sun for 6 months to a few years. Catastrophic as that would be, it would not cause a return of a lingering 100,000-year long Ice Age. Indeed, once the heaviest elements of ash filter out of the skies the sulfuric compounds and other green house gases left behind as aerosols will stay far longer aloft trapping the suns rays inside the atmosphere even more efficiently than before, causing a spike in global warming.

The Mount Pinatubo’s eruption in 1991 is a prime example of this. Because of the volcanic plume, we had a general cooling of the climate for several years during the 1990s. However, as I accurately predicted back then, once the sun’s rays were no longer blocked by a thin ceiling of ash cloud, the lighter, invisible compounds floating in the high atmosphere did generate a climate changing, global warming spike in 1998 and word temperatures have been spiking on ever since.

Here was that prediction published in 1994:

Although the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo (June 1991) has cooled off the world temperatures for the mid-90s the heat is on with a vengeance by 1998. With this interpretation in mind we can expect a wave of global droughts by July 1998. From that time onward global warming steadily kicks in disrupting weather patterns and the movement of climate conditions needed to grow grain.

Kercelia contributed another angle of collective foreboding about something wicked this way soon coming only this time she sources it to a collective socially degenerative source:

This rush to be entertained is a symptom of civilizations on the brink of collapse. They idle away the last momentum they have left in distractions and entertainment. Look at Rome and its insatiable lust for blood letting of criminals, Christian cultists and animals in the Coliseum.

The 18th-century Ancien Regime of France (the French kings and aristocratic class) sought distractions rather than sorted out looming problems. The movie Dangerous Liaisons presents that quite accurately. Even Louis XV predicted that his successor would see the Deluge that he neither could prevent nor cared to prevent, degenerating, as was his moribund culture of blue blooded entitlement. Thus he dead-handed over the crown to his stodgy, unimaginative grandson, Louis XVI, who along with his queen and many a French aristocrat went to the guillotine during the French Revolution.

A predilection to disconnect from realities and pressing challenges is a symptom of the end of cultures cycling down to full entropy. Denial of realities, white washing them with a darling, politically correct euphemism climate change is just another Maria Antoinette moment.

When Louis XVI’s Austrian born and publicly unpopular queen was told of famine and bread riots spreading across France with the inherent danger to the monarchy’s stability overlooked, she shrugged her powdered bejeweled shoulders and said, “Let them eat cake!”

(Whether Marie A. actually said this is disputed by historians; however, the perception that she did say this was popularly “entertained” by the poor people grumbling in bread lines about the queen and court’s documented excesses, wantonly pursued to abandon while the people starved. Civilizations approaching their nadir choose to be entertained by myths rather than encounter and remedy hard facts.)

Our global civilization in a state of entropy has its “let them eat cake” term for global warming. The “cake” is “climate change”.

The euphemism puts us at ease with some sweet but factually white washing frosting spread to decorate and make palatable what is soon to cascade in increasing mean temperature rises around the world because of the unbridled increase of human manufactured pollution.

Now we turn to a comment left by Becky. She is watching the mounting seismic activity in the Pacific Rim (AKA the Ring of Fire). She is tying that to potential food sustainability problems that for me echo the bread lines of 18th-century Paris and a doomed-in-denial queen who eventually had to eat her “let them eat cake” words a few years later with a blood chaser foaming out of her own severed head falling in a basket. (Eeeeoooo! Let’em eat “nape”.)

There seems to be a build up for another massive quake in the northern part of the ring of fire. There was a 6.7 in Japan a few days ago followed by a 7.2 in the Aleutian chain. The ring [of fire] is having a doozey of a conversation. How are our food stores going to hold up?

HOGUE
I would say the time has come to store food and water for many reasons, not only breakdowns that might happen because of earthquakes.

Perhaps this is a good time to review and add to some of my predictions concerning violent earth and climate changes logged shortly after the great quake and tsunami in Japan last March.

My oracle gave me the message that the Philippines would be among the next hit. An eruption did take place on the island of Luzon but nothing yet to match the scale my oracle intended; however, it was correct about a powerful aftershock hitting Christchurch. Here is the quote:

My oracle predicts the danger would be moving south of Honshu Island into the equatorial or southern hemispheric areas. Be prepared in Kyushu Island (Japan), Okinawa (Japan), the Philippines, Indonesia, all the way south to Christchurch for more strong aftershocks in New Zealand after that devastating quake several weeks ago. Christchurch suffered a 5.5 and a powerful 6.0 temblor on 13 June knocking out power to 50,000 homes. As for the Philippines, I might have misread the message and would like for the record to amend my prediction. The quake off the Honshu coast of Japan may have pressed added pressure to the collision point between the Philippine and Japanese tectonic plates where they meet just south of the mouth of Tokyo Harbor. The recent 6.7 aftershock is just another pressurizing nudge. Most tectonic scientists are far more concerned that a second quake may unhinge the mouth of Tokyo Bay, sending a catastrophic quake and tsunami rolling into the world’s most populous city. Such quakes have been responsible in the past for shaking Mt Fuji wide black-ash-cloud-eyed awake. This could happen in July but is more likely to happen later in September or November. I will explain below.

Mt. Puyehue eruption.

The essence of the oracle’s seismic prophecies written after the 11 March Japanese temblor and tsunami have been so far correct being as they were more volcanic in nature. We had Grimsvotn volcano in Iceland disrupt air traffic, albeit briefly across Europe with ash clouds for a few days in the latter half of May 2011. June had the Chilean Puyehue volcano, 500 miles south of Santiago, blasting to life three weeks ago. It has already disrupted air traffic in lower South America, South Africa and especially across Australia and New Zealand for a few weeks. July is coming and we do not know what it could do next. The Chilean eruption is definitely the ash cloud of consequence. We will have to see what that does to the southern Hemisphere’s weather. It could bring a temporary cooling of the climate if the eruption goes on through July and August, but as I said earlier, that will just set the stage for another climate warming spike a year down time’s road. What is significant to remember is the last time Puyehue erupted was 1960; the same year Chile suffered the most powerful earthquake ever measured by modern instruments at magnitude 9.5. There is a connection between this volcano and major quakes and we might hope the 8.8 temblor back in 2010 was the tectonic tit for tat, but I do not think so.

No quakes hit the Pacific Northwest from the latter half of April into early May. I had been warned by a reader who is head of a coven of forecasters to leave the area. She no longer likes me but was compassionate enough to send her forecast, prophetically inaccurate as they often are (see earthquake predictions). To be fair she is not the only one who got a prediction wrong. Mine for a possible seismic event in California around the full moon in Taurus in May 2011 did not transpire. Still California is way past overdue for a large-scale quake from San Francisco directly bestride the San Andreas Fault Line constricting earth and rock all the way south and inland from Los Angeles and San Diego. Even Monday, the Wall Street Journal posted a story about growing concern over the southern segment of the San Andreas Fault near Lost Angeles and San Diego cutting loose. The San Andreas under what is called the Palmdale Bulge swells without pressure release for 300 years and counting. The WS Journal’s article focused on the economic impact on a fragile world economy if Los Angeles should rock and roll with a quake of 7.8 magnitude.

I am not getting any Southern Cal quake for July yet, or August for LA, but I am concerned for Southern California, the Pacific Northwest, Japan’s Tokyo Bay-Mt. Fuji region for late September and again in November.

I will let Manuel lead us into that prediction.

John, your very accurate on your deciphering of Nostradamus and your own intuitive prophesies, good job. Last night I listened to a man named Carl Johan Calleman a guest on Coast to Coast AM you might have heard this interview also if not he had some very interesting topic on the Mayan long count calendar. He claimed the end of the calendar is actually Oct. 28 2011 other then Dec. 2011 it will coincide with the arrival of the comet Elenin and another comet that follows it. He say’s he’s studied the calendar for more then 15 yrs. During this time period there will be many upheavals to the planet as well as our global civilization. Elenin could possibly be the brown dwarf [star]?

First, let us deal with the idiotic. I am adding this bit in italics a few hours after posting this blog so that what I have to say is loud and presciently clear: Doomsday — whether it is projected for the world or if it is doomsday imagined for people’s collective unconsciousness, suddenly, magically going “poof” in a collective shift of consciousness — are both just two sides of the same coin of New Age idiocy. There are two kinds of Chicken Littles who misinterpret the signs either for doomsday or bloomsday. The sky doesn’t have to fall. Chicken little can think something fell out of the sky and knocked some enlightenment into him too. Here then is my prediction about Calleman: He will soon be remembered (or soon forgotten) as one in a long line of history’s Chicken Littles, who got struck by an imaginative idea, unsubstantiated by reality and then went peeping off all fuss and feathered about dates of doomsday light or dark, Mayan or otherwise that came and went without fanfare. The people of the distant future will tell you that there is no special date in a calendar that makes human enlightenment happen. If not now, then, there is no other time to harmonically converge, so put your plastic wands away and come back to the ground upon which you stand inside the body-mind in which you watch the mind and its flights of chicken flapping, feathers frapping, imagination — 2012 twenty-shelved. Come here with your intelligence, with your energy, with your love. Come HERE. Be here. Do it every “now.”

Anyway, Calleman aside, we just enjoyed such a goofsday last month anticipated for years by street billboards of a squatting man seeming to be scared-sh*tless, filling his britches, because the Rapture was set for 21 May 2011, click on end of the world.

Now to something far more plausible. Elenin is a comet, not a brown dwarf or cold star. Yet, as it approaches our solar system and as the orbiting earth lined up with it and the Sun a significant earthquake took place either that very same day or within a few days. The first alignment coincided with a magnitude 8.8 quake hit the Chilean coast sending a Pacific wide tsunami on 27 February 2010. Next came a 7.2 temblor shaking up Christchurch, New Zealand on 4 September 2010. The third alignment of Sun-Earth-Elenin happened, as Melvin correctly pointed out in his comment, on 15 March, four days after 11 March 2011 when Japan’s 9.0 quake crushed and later drowned over 25,000 people and knocked out four nuclear reactors along the northeast Honshu coastline with a vast flooding tsunami that also sent waves reverberating across surface of the Pacific Ocean.

Discovery of this alignment-quake connection came from the last people in the world — astronomers — who want to feed any interest in Astrology’s belief that heavenly bodies, even as small as comets, somehow influence the fates of people and the world, but there it was, reported by none other than the JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) Small Body Database Browser. Three exact and major seismic disasters hit exactly on three days of alignment.

What do they have to say for that?

JPL’s astrology debunkers give the established, dogmatic sci-spiel, that small cometary bodies crossing Earth’s path millions of miles away cannot have any gravitational influence on the Earth, blah blah…

It is a feint of Scientism to sidestep something rather than face it. The astrologer in me retorts that the Elenin lineup might be the first clear evidence of another force other than gravity that heavenly bodies impress upon personal and collective destinies of humanity. A true scientist would not spout canon law like a pope’s grand inquisitor but would instead be true to the path of knowing — which is what scire, the Latin root for Science — demands. Three earthquake hits out of three may be more than chance working its irrational magic, though I would not rule that out. Still, the honest scientific answer beyond shrugging it off as a coincidence might be to say there is some force out there they have yet to discover.

What dodge will those who promote Scientism Inquisitions say if Elenin scores four or five temblors to five lineups?

The JPL Small Body Database Browser tells us of two more alignments of Elenin with the Sun and Earth coming on 26 September and 23 November 2011.

Coincident or an oncoming incident, would five hits be something worth preparing for?

I usually do not tell people to anticipate events on a specific date, unless terrorist — domestic and foreign — are planning acts of violence based on playing a numbers game. For instance, once should always be a little more alert for white supremacist domestic terrorism — such as the Columbine, Colorado, school shooting — every 20th of April because it is Hitler’s birthday. Al-Qaeda likes to hit targets on number puns for emergency codes, like 9/11, or play with 7s and 11s. Some lone jihadist might try something 7/4/11 this year, so be watchful.

This Elenin phenomenon is different. It is just a happening, like the orbit of planets that astrologers like myself in these pages, have shown have a direct correlation to the timing of natural disasters. See earthquakes.

I will tell my readers today that earthquake preparedness and tsunami preparedness is a prudent thing to entertain for the next line-ups of Elenin scheduled for 26 September and 23 November. The fact that lineup number four happens close to the Spring/Autumnal equinoxes of the Southern and Northern Hemispheres adds cosmic significance. The 26th is bracketed by the Equinox on the 23rd and a New Moon on the 27th. I would suggest being prepared four days before and beyond the 26th.

As I have often stated, major earthquakes take place on or closely associated in time with New and Full Moons. Many of history’s deadliest earthquakes happen when Uranus is undergoing a significant 90-degree square aspect. It so happens that Uranus in Aries (fire sign = volcanoes) will still be in its long-term square of Pluto in Capricorn (earth sign = earthquakes) on 26 September. Moreover, Uranus will be in retrograde motion whilst Pluto the week before will have come out of retrograde moving direct — another signature in the cosmos that causes quakes on Earth. Mars, by the way, will be trined with Uranus. That is usually a positive aspect, but the term positive can also cover a positive movement of tectonic plates that the planet sometimes needs to thrust about for its own positive evolution, despite what it might do to the little human fleas on its dancing backside.

Given the regularity of Comet Elenin’s lineups so far, look to the days around 26 September as the most dangerous time this year for natural, economic or political disasters.

“Deepak” from India took me to task in Mumbai 9-11: Part Five (see 26.11, India’s 9-11). In the series I tried to explain how Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist commando attack on the financial district of Mumbai India on 26 November 2008 was intended to pull India into another — and potentially nuclear — conflict as per al-Qaeda’s strategic aims, which are to unite the Islamic world to fight infidels thus fulfilling Islamic apocalyptic prophecies. Mahatma Gandhi, before his assassination had predicted that partition of Pakistan from India would create four large-scale wars. Three of those wars have since been fought. If there is a fourth, it could be nuclear effectively killing more Pakistanis and Indians in South Asian than all who died in the First and Second World Wars combined.

In the Mumbai 9/11 series, I reprised segments of an earlier set of articles describing the border standoff in late 2001 early 2002 between India and Pakistan just after al-Qaeda had launched its terror attack on New York City and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Kashmiri rebels trained by al-Qaeda elements had tried storming the Indian Parliament in December 2001. After which, Pakistani and Indian forces gathered along their shared frontier. Nuclear arsenals of both belligerents were on a hair trigger. More frightening to me than this were the mass rallies in Indian and Pakistani urban centers. Millions on either side urged their governments to drop the atomic bomb on the enemy. Many blithely believed that nuclear blast effects and plagues of radioactivity were nothing new to what Indians and Pakistanis suffer from earthquakes or monsoonal floods. They could take it — please drop the bomb with our blessings. Our India, our Pakistan will live forever, according to our prophets.

This incredible naivety lurks underneath the masses. Perhaps it embeds deep in the mind of “Deepak” who wrote the letter below.

All religious fundamentalists of every cloth, be it orange of Hindu, black of Islamic, or the somber cloth of Protestant collared reverends or the rich raiments Catholic priests, presume divine beliefs prevail untested. I wrote about it in greater detail here: See Messiah. The righteously faithful serenely believe they will survive any apocalypse they might have to unleash on others. Here is one of them:

I read your article and well don’t agree with your Analysis. India survived 1,400 years of Islamic and British rule. Swami Vivekananda and Swami Ramakrishna were the reincarnation of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna. They did not predict the destruction of India ever. They have only spoken of India’s rise. Many other saints have predicted the same. Indian horoscope also shows the same.

There is a famous story of Ramakrishna giving his disciple Vivekananda siddhi (psychic) powers and was admonished to use them wisely. Instead, he used them to plant a thought in a simple disciple’s mind that he should throw into the river the rocks he used to represent the gods for worship. Ramakrishna found out and promptly took the powers away. Vivekananda pleaded for them to be restored but Ramakrishna compassionately forbid their use as long as Vivekananda lived because his ego was too strong to resist misusing them and he needed to learn humility.

He was sincere and a great messenger for his Master, Ramakrishna, but his master tried very hard to help him go beyond that self-absorbed spiritual narcissism. Ramakrishna’s message was delivered well by Vivekananda to the West, and he is one of the pioneers of the great shift of spiritual values from the East to the West gradually taking place. Vivekananda, however, was only a messenger and not a living “message.”

When I see Ramakrishna (left), still as a statue, propped up by his bewildered disciples, in the famous picture, gone, gone, completely lost in the light of the gap… Who cares about who was born as whom? All distinctions are lost in that blissful light of Now-Eternal. Only top-heavy people lost in the dark recesses of minds piled high with religious jargon and thoughts care about whether Ramakrishna was Lord Ram. As I see him in the photo, Ramakrishna is not thinking. He is free. He is beyond all dry-boned and drop-dead punditry. He is gone, gone, beyond Lord Ram.

You don’t know for sure, Deepak, but you would like to think Ram and Krishna never said there would be an end to India.

All things of this world — India included — end. Lord Krishna “had” predicted your end, my end and India’s eventual end, albeit indirectly. Read the Gita. Krishna often speaks of transience of the egoistic world. With that in awareness, think. Where is “Bharat”? Gone. Where is the Mogul Empire? Where is the British Raj? Gone, gone completely gone.

India? Pakistan?

It takes no prophet to tell you that your current political construct called “India” will go the way of Ashoka’s Empire and the way of the Kaurava’s whom Arjuna slaughtered with his arrows with Lord Krishna guiding the chariot.

Where too has Arjuna gone? He has also passed to the Himalayas in an icy tomb of avalanche. The evil, the good, all the chapters of India, even “chapters” as a concept will pass away in Kalpas (great cycles of time) coming.

India will end. What is important is whether the witnessing Atma ends. Who cares about transient illusions like India, or the USA, or this “John Hogue” or that “Deepak” — all dust. What about the consciousness behind these masks of illusion, Deepak? That ought to be your concern, not the further existence of the idiotic political posturing of Maya.

Then they are projecting their chauvinism. India will vanish like Mohenjo Daro and Harappa, like the throne of Hastinapura. It is the nature of things. Yet, egoists like your saints and astrologers would project their belief as fact against the passing of kalpas. Such folly.

There will be problems which Indian horoscope shows and K N Rao predicted about the turmoil in India during the Bombay attack. Indian astrology is quite competent to show what lies ahead and its also has a dark warning for the coming years.

Indian astrology is the most competent. I know from direct experience. I’ve lived in India and met with many of your astrologers. Unlike the West, Indian Astrology keeps the calculations simple and doesn’t clutter them up with the needless additions of every piece of floating space rock to clutter the interpretation with noise.

I have a large South Asian readership. They’ve been asking for predictions about India and I will provide them with many in my forthcoming book Predictions for 2011. I will say this, one dark warning for which India must prepare is a natural disaster of floods and storms in the next Monsoon Season of 2011 that will rival those besetting Pakistan in 2010. Orissa, West and East Bengal in particular should brace themselves. Also, there will be more terrorist attacks in September and November of 2011 issuing out of Pakistan from Lashkar-e-Taiba. Once again the targets intended will be where Westerners gather and spiritual retreats. If security is high and awareness vigilant these attacks will not succeed.

Back to Indian Astrology. It is the finest in the world. However, that doesn’t mean that on occasion egos like those possessed by some of your Indian-chauvinistic seers will be any less myopic than chauvinistic American astrologers are about believing and projecting upon the stars an illusion of the eternal progress of America. All things of this mortal world rise and fall like a wave on eternity’s ocean.

The question I ask my self is this: shall I fixate on an identity of wave or remember that I am the ocean?

Of Gandhi’s Fourth and Nuclear War?

Friends,
The crisis begins. One that could overshadow all others coming in the New Year of 2009.

Today (26 December 2008), Associated press reports Pakistani troops are heading for the border with India. The 20,000 men of the 14th Infantry Division have moved to forward positions between the towns of Kasur and Sialkot along the disputed militarized border frontier dividing Kashmir known as the Line of Control. Intelligence reports describe large Pakistani units previously fighting al-Qaeda and Taliban terrorists are pulling out of West Pakistani tribal regions heading east in preparation to man the Indo-Pakistani line. Two strategic goals of the Mumbai terrorist attacks have been fulfilled: 1.) Renew a crisis between India and Pakistan; and, 2.) Relieve the military pressure brought to bear on al-Qaeda and Taliban centers of operation in Western Pakistan along the border of Afghanistan.

Usama bin Laden, one of Nostradamus’ chief candidates for what he calls Mabus, the Third Antichrist, is the dean of global jihadist terrorism. He has trained those who trained Pakistani terrorist commandos who inflicted death and chaos in the heart of Mumbai’s financial district in November. Though he does not, indeed needs not, directly overlord or even plan these attacks, he is responsible for the evil vision and training of those who do.

A great destruction of people and animals, as Nostradamus predicted may be Usama bin Laden’s intent. It will include the martyrdom of Pakistan in a nuclear war with infidel Hindu-dominated India that is intended to unite and radicalize one-sixth of the world’s people who are Muslim to wage jihad.

The nukes and rumors of nukes being stockpiled in South Asia since the late 1980s has compelled hot headed hawks in the governments of India and Pakistan to rush to the brink of war a number of times yet so far they dare not cross that apocalyptic line. I was in India during one of those rushes to that line. It was in the first half of 1990. I reflected upon those days eleven years later in what was written below in December 2001, framing them in childhood memories of the closest time the world came to doomsday:

During the Cuban Missile Crisis I watched loved ones peer into soft October skies waiting for Armageddon to fly on contrails of missiles and B-52 bombers. The tension I experienced in India reminded me of those thirteen frightening days from my childhood. I walked in the Indian valleys in the shadow of immanent nuclear death. That feeling returns to me now eleven years later [December 2001] as I watch developments in this newest crisis. I feel India and Pakistan moving inexorably towards the dark frontiers of a fourth war [forseen by Mahatma Gandhi] on the tank treads of mobile ballistic missile launchers.

A FOURTH –AND NUCLEAR — WAR?

In mid-December 2001, eight terrorists identified as members of the Kashmiri insurgent organizations of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e Tayyaba, stormed the Indian Parliament in New Delhi. All eight men were killed along with six Indian security servicemen in a failed attempt to annihilate the political leadership of India. Soon afterwards large contingents of the 1.3-million-man Indian army and six-hundred-thousand-man Pakistani army began moving into position facing each other in the winter fastness of Kashmir along the disputed Line of Control. Farther south you see them park their tanks and set up their mortars and artillery along the partition line drawn 54 years before, dividing the heavily populated regions of Punjab. They position their anti-aircraft batteries and mobile ballistic missile launchers behind dunes in the deserts along the western edge of Rajasthan. They prepare dugouts for over a million soldiers down along an invisible line, drawn on the maps of politicians, across the Himilayan fastness of Kashmir all the way down to the salt marshes of the Rann of Kutch along the Arabian Sea.

And there those million men of India, and a half-million men of Pakistan, wait; hopeful for a diplomatic solution.

On Friday, 21 December [2001], the Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Vijay K. Nambiar, promptly left the Pakistani capital declaring a diplomatic impasse. He had learned that Pakistan would not immediately arrest all leaders and members of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e Tayyaba organizations and dismantle their training camps in the Pakistani occupied portion of Kashmir.

Given the new and darker world we live in after terrorists harbored by rogue nations crashed hijacked jets into New York’s skyline and the US Capital, India feels within its rights to demand of Pakistan what America demanded of Taliban ruled Afghanistan: a) arrest all terrorists within their borders; b) close down and destroy their training camps; c) seize and destroy their weapons; and, d) face a full scale military retaliation if there is no compliance to every demand.

What indeed would Americans demand of Pakistan if they where in India’s place? If terrorists from camps in Pakistani-controlled Kashmir had sprayed the US Capitol Building with grenades and machine guns in an attempt to slaughter the US Senate and US House of Representatives, what would the United States do?

By adopting the Bush terrorism doctrine, India could soon launch an attack on terrorist camps in Pakistani territory but this time, the fourth war foreseen by Gandhi could go nuclear. Current estimates place Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal at 8 to 20 atomic bombs, each with a destructive force similar to those used by the United States in their nuclear attack on Japan in 1945. India may have anywhere from 25 to 40 similarly destructive atomic weapons in its arsenal.

When Gandhi and Jinnah debated the partition of India, there were 340 million people in the balance. Fifty-four years and an explosion of population later, Gandhi’s warning of a fourth and catastrophic war places up to 1.2 billion South Asians in the balance. In the worst case scenario, history’s first nuclear “bush” war could extinguish far more people than all those lost in both world wars of the 20th century. The death toll could be in the hundreds of millions.

The descriptions above, written exactly seven years ago, sound like today’s news. New terrorist attacks out of Pakistan on India, this time Mumbai, compel Indian leaders to demand the extradition of culprits and the dismantling of camps. It only seems the names of these leaders and organizations have changed. Now, starting with today, begins the military buildup along the border, the ramp up of tensions that could lead us weeks or months away from the brinksmanship of nuclear conflict in South Asia, like before, if this time India moves to punitive attacks on terror camps inside Pakistan.

A report released in May 2002 entitled Disarmament Diplomacy: News Review – India and Pakistan Camped on Brink of War over Kashmir estimated a worst-case scenario death toll far lower than my estimate. The defense agency report calculated an initial 8-12 million deaths in a nuclear exchange. Millions more later would succumb to radiation poisoning which they did not wish to specify.

“That’s the worst-case scenario,” said an unamed Defense Department official, commenting on the paper, “If we have correctly guessed the number of weapons each side has, and their targets, and presuming they’re all ground bursts versus air bursts… The fatalities if they were air bursts would be slightly smaller by maybe a million, but…that’s still a very significant number…”

The report doesn’t factor in collteral death tolls from disease and famine caused by the destruction of urban Indian and Pakistani urban centers. Maybe a million? The tone of the study almost makes the unthinkable, sound possible. The possible is a view military hawks on both sides of the Line of Control push as sustainable. This mindset is immune to the concept of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) that kept the Soviets and the Americans from fighting a nuclear war for nearly a half-a-century during the Cold War.

In Part Five of Mumbai 9/11, we ask the prophet Nostradamus for his take on a future Indo-Pakistani nuclear war. He may have described it over four centuries before it may happen.

Mahatma Gandhi is not often remembered as a prophet. Nor would he wish to be regarded as one, especially the prophet of South Asia’s doom.

“The Partition of India will be the cause of four wars with Pakistan!”

He made this declaration in 1947, before the Partition of India transpired. Before a Hindu fundamentalist gunned him down in 1948. They ironically blamed Gandhi for the mayhem of partition he had tried so desperately, even prophetically, to prevent. I’m sure Gandhi hoped against hope that an augured caveat of four future wars sprouting from proposed partition would motivate the Muslim League of Ali Jinnah and his own Congress Party to forbear slicing up the sub-continent into religiously nationalistic enclaves whose very polarizing existence would, he believed, bring a string of military catastrophes that need not be.

We resume the historical account I wrote for my HogueProphecy Bulletin “Mahatma Gandhi’s Prophecy” (31 December 2001) describing how first three of the predicted four wars came about:

Gandhi lived to see the first Indo-Pakistani war erupt in the mountains of Jammu-Kashmir at the close of 1947. This disputed Himalayan kingdom ruled by a Hindu Maharaja before the partition of India had a predominantly Muslim population. Both India and Pakistan claimed it. After the Maharaja had ceded Kashmir to India, he requested military help as mobile columns of Pakistani troops and armed Pathan tribesmen invaded through the Himalayan passes heading for the Kashmiri capital of Srinagar. Indian forces checked their lightning strike and United Nations intervention resulted in the battle line becoming the de facto new border between Indian and Pakistani Kashmir known to this day as the Line of Control. The first war resulted in roughly two-thirds of Kashmir remaining in Indian hands. Pakistan would demand of India that she let the people of Kashmir hold a special plebiscite to decide whether to incorporate into India or not. India would delay the Kashmiri plebiscite for decades. In 1960, Communist China signed a friendship pact with Pakistan and seized a large portion of Indian-held Kashmir two years later in a surprise offensive

In 1965, India and Pakistan fought a second and much larger war over dominion of Kashmir across the frontiers of West Pakistan. India sent 900,000 troops in a crushing, three-pronged offensive against the Pakistani defenses on the approaches to Lahore. Over 450 Pakistani tanks were destroyed. A UN cease-fire forestalled the intervention of Communist China on the side of Pakistan.

A third and even bloodier Indo-Pakistani conflict came six years later in 1971. A civil war in East Pakistan between Muslim Bengali insurgents (tacitly supported and armed by India) and an occupying army of mainly West Pakistanis escalated into a wider war with India. It started when the wholesale round up and massacre of hundreds of thousands of suspected Bengali civilians by West Pakistani soldiers caused ten million refugees to flood into India and overwhelm its emergency food resources. US President Richard Nixon declared that India’s support of Bengali insurgents was an attempt to destabilize Pakistan — a US client state during the Cold War –  and he cut off India’s American credit. Pakistani jets promptly bombed Indian airfields in Kashmir. The Indian army entered the war on the side of the insurgents. In twelve days they successfully shattered Pakistani forces on two fronts and captured an entire Pakistani army of 90,000 men in East Pakistan. East Pakistan became the new country of Bangladesh.

Pakistan had not only lost the war but lost half of its population and two-thirds of its export economy. The army and economy were on the verge of collapse. Pakistan stressed its economy further trying to catch up with India in a nuclear arms race obtaining nuclear weapons capability at the close of the 1980s. Around the same time, it also supplied arms and safe havens for Kashmiri insurgents to wage a decade-long civil war in Jammu-Kashmir. Border clashes across the Line of Control were frequent throughout the 1990s.

I was traveling through India in the spring of 1990 when the two countries nearly fulfilled Gandhi’s prophecy and fought a fourth war. Rumors abounded in the Indian press that India was contemplating a preemptive blitzkrieg strike to take out Pakistan’s nuclear program before they could make deliverable nuclear weapons. However, a report from Indian spies in Pakistan made an ominous discovery. They saw new bomb racks on the wings of Pakistani jet bombers large enough to load atomic weapons. Was Pakistan bluffing? Could they really deliver their nuclear payloads? The Indian government ordered their conventional forces to stand down.

There had been frequent border incidents throughout the rest of the 1990s, the worst being prompted by a future dictator of Pakistan in May 1999, General Pervez Musharraf, in a sharp action atop a mountainous section just south of the Siachen Glacier near the town of Kargil on Line of Control dividing Kashmir. Given the account just presented of the last three wars, the border clash, known as the Kargil War (May-July 1999), doesn’t count as Gandhi’s fourth war, as some of you might want to believe. Gandhi’s fourth war will not be some local battle, no matter how intense, fought in one sector in Kashmir. It must be a war not in one sector of the Indo-Pakistani border, but along all sectors. There must be deep incursions by air launched by the Pakistani and Indian air forces. There must be naval confrontations at sea.

A full-scale war didn’t erupt from the Kargil clash because of mountain blasts of a different level of magnitude had happened a year before. Pakistan successfully detonated their first atomic weapons tests deep inside the craggy wall of a Baluchistani mountain range shaking dust off its cliffs in five successful attempts. The largest of these unleashed a 5.0 earthquake unloading a blast yield in the belly of the mountain of 12 kilotons. India responded with its own televised underground tests in the Rajasthani Desert. (India had tested its first atom bomb back in 1974.)

Border clashes and shelling would remain frequent occurances after the tests up to and beyond the Kargil battle and all the way to present day. Indeed, small arms fire and limited shelling along the Line of Control has increased since July 2008.

The last major standoff of millions of Indian and Pakistani troops came in late 2001 with no full-scale war. Apparently, no one on either side now dares push conventional conflict to the extremes of the past.

If they did — if India “does” in the near future to punish Pakistan for the Mumbai terror attacks — Gandhi’s fourth war could go nuclear.

Partition and a Prophecy

Back in 1994, in The Millennium Book of Prophecy, I picked the South Asian region as the first most likely area to wage a developing-world version of mutually assured nuclear destruction; in other words, what I defined as a “Nuclear Bush War.”

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869-1948) the father of Indian Independence believed the division of India into Muslim and Hindu dominated states would increase sectarian discord in South Asia. What follows is a passage from a HogueProphecy Bulletin written on the last day of 2001, nearly seven years ago, around the time Jihad terrorists coming out of Pakistan tried a dramatic commando attack in India’s heartland that could bring on a military crisis, indeed a nuclear war. This passage from that bulletin gives the historical background to why Gandhi made his dire prophecy:

In the monsoon season of 1947, in the final days of the British Raj in India, the key leaders of Indian resistance to British rule confronted each other over shape of the independence to come. Although for years Mohandas Gandhi, the spiritual and political father of the predominantly Hindu Congress party, and Muhammad Ali Jinnah (1876-1948), the leader of the Muslim League, were united in their fight for independence from British rule, they stubbornly disagreed about what shape that Indian independence should take. Gandhi believed that India should remain united, whereas Jinnah could not see how the new India, with its huge Hindu population of 250 million, could ever treat a minority of 90 million Muslims as anything but second class citizens. For Jinnah the only solution was the partition of India’s predominantly Muslim provinces into a new Islamic-friendly state of Pakistan (Urdu for “The Land of the Spiritually Pure”). Gandhi believed that a secular based democracy would eventually find a way to protect all minorities given time and patience. A rending of India into two nationally and religiously divided entities would create a climate of greater sectarian violence than ever before.

To accommodate Jinnah, Gandhi was ready to undercut his own political party and Jawaharlal Nehru, his chief disciple and designated choice for prime minister, for the sake of unity. If Jinnah would forego partition Gandhi was ready to order Nehru and the Congress party leadership to step aside and allow Jinnah and leaders of his Muslim League form the first Indian government.

Though initially stunned by the radical offer, Jinnah rejected Gandhi. To him no power on earth would prevent Pakistan, even if a partition of India created minorities of millions of Hindus, Sikhs, and Muslims stranded in new countries not of their choice. Jinnah’s dream of Pakistan would live, whatever the cost; even if the new state could hardly sustain itself as a viable nation.

“Better a moth-eaten Pakistan than no Pakistan at all,” Jinnah would later say.

British parliament passed a bill granting partition in July 1947. Independence came the following month with the birth of two new nations of India and Pakistan. The physical division led to an autumn of mass murder and bloodshed and the agonizing displacement of tens of millions. On the dusty roads and tracks across the new frontiers, hoards of Muslims refugees from Hindu dominated India passed millions of Hindus exiting Muslim dominated Pakistan. Over 1 million people died in Hindu-Muslim violence during the great exodus. On January 30, 1948, Gandhi himself was assassinated by Nathuram V. Godse. A Hindu fundamentalist, Godse believed Gandhi had sold India out to partition and to the Muslims.

Upon Pakistan’s independence, Jinnah was installed as Governor General of an economically feeble and politically stressed new country of diverse peoples who shared little else in common but Islam. Pakistan consisted of eastern and western provinces separated by a thousand miles of hostile Indian territory. Jinnah survived Gandhi by eight months. A chain smoker all his adult life, he finally succumbed to lung disease.

Before Gandhi’s martyrdom, and before he received the title Mahatma (great soul), he prophesied [in 1947] that any partition of India would magnify the historic discord and suspicion between Muslims and Hindus in South Asia. Partition, he said, would destine India and Pakistan to fight four wars ‚Äö?Ñ?Æ each more terrible than the last.

Because of the many letters received commenting on the recent passing of Adi Da Samraj in Fiji on Thanksgiving Day in American time zones (a day later, 28 November 2008, Fijian time), I wish to share my responses to the entire blog community in three installments.

I begin the first installment answering the embittered readers so that we can move to the sweet heart healing.

To the reader who merely calls himself “editor” comes this comment:

“I saw your blog that mentioned Adi Da — you might want to research him further, as there is a side of him that supporters don’t want to discuss.  Former devotees have information and essays posted at www.adidaarchives.org.”

MY ANSWER:

Thanks Editor of Adidaarchives.org.

I have been 30 years now tracking the lives of modern mystics and have already compiled a mountain of information from pro and con camps about Adi Da and others. It is a good thing for Jesus and Buddha that their police reports have disappeared from history. Modern mystics haven’t that pleasure. That is not to say that what you have documented isn’t factual, but in the world of mystics, the factual can be misinterpreted. For instance, if today we reprise the acts of an ancient Zen master hitting his disciple over the head with a stick, or throwing him out a second floor window, or cutting off the upheld index finger of a seven-year old disciple, he would rapidly find himself in prison. However, in each case these unusual and seemingly cruel acts led to a disciple’s enlightenment.

Spiritual liberation from illusion might be worth broken bones from a second floor window drop, a concussion from a stick strike or the loss of an illusory finger or be worth any other mainstream perceived outrage. That’s not saying there are people posing as masters who are doing real and great harm to their disciples. However, all cases are not as clear-cut as clueless mainstream outsiders or disgruntled devotees assume.

The path to enlightenment is not for the feeble minded or weak of heart. It is most dangerous and presents the highest risks. Indeed if liberation is not pursued as a life and death necessity, it will not have the totality needed to succeed. Even then, one can fall. One can miss. One can be embraced by a false master as much as by a true one. The path of disciplehood is the ultimate gamble seeking ultimate gain.

There is a common yet mostly unnoticed thread of prejudice in the ego mind-set of those who call themselves “former” disciples or devotees of gurus. Every disciple comes with his or her emotional and mental expectations of what the master will and should do, should be. Mostly these are unconscious or semi-conscious expectations. A real master who is there to catalyze a disciple’s own individual liberation from such a fractionalized mental and emotional mind-set will inevitably destroy those expectations. Many “former” disciples become campaigners against a teacher because they harbor spiritual sour grapes. They couldn’t cram the master up their own preconceived expectations and now they’re taking revenge.

Conversely, there are those who remain constant in their devotion to a master harboring another kind of blindness. They hold onto a mindset that turns their master into a projection of a new and dead dogma, even while he’s still alive. They just believe whatever the master says as gospel rather than take the master’s provocation as an unspoken challenge to find out whether what the master says is one’s own direct experience.

There’s a fine line between conscious devotion and blind belief in a master. Thus, many of the devotees who don’t want to discuss negative reports about their master are just as blocked as those former disciples who won’t look at their unrequited expectations. One kind of disciple is a victim of dogmatic belief untested. The former disciple can be a victim of a sliced-off finger, a push out the window or a stick over his or her thick headed belief systems that failed to liberate, not because the master was mean, but because the so-called victim’s reactive-conditioned mind prevailed.

It is this mind-set, which I define in Third Antichrist, as the Antichrist Unconscious, that makes all of us victims of its reactive whims. The true masters out there are trying in every way, even when they are sometimes shocking us, to snap us out of the Antichrist Unconscious’s hypnotic suggestion.

The master-disciple relationship is a different world, following different ethics. I will endeavor to explain that world in future writings because I am an initiate with direct and ongoing experience of this unique love relationship since 1980. My study of prophecy is only a sideline to a life path that directly, intimately engages the new religious movements and spiritual revolutions of our times.

Thanks again for the link, “editor” of adidaarchives. I will examine it carefully and compare it with my own legal and police reports. Perhaps in the future I can help people who identify themselves as devotees or former devotees see something beyond these retarding identities. Even the word “devotion” cannot contain something far more mysterious and blissful than it tries to limit in label.  Perhaps I can present a world of ethics that is trans-moral rather than amoral or merely of mainstream morality, which in the world of enlightenment is not worth much, compared to the bliss and liberation possible living beyond reactive mindsets.

A harrowing story of survival from a Friend

In my last blog, I wrote about seeking information on friends and acquaintances who survived, or didn’t survive the Mumbai terrorist attacks from last week. So far, it looks like none of them number among the slain or wounded.

I just got this report. It’s an account about an Osho devotee I‚Äö?Ñ?¥ve known since the mid-1980s and his harrowing experiences as a hostage (or better, refugee in the cross-fire) of the terrorists battling Indian paramilitaries in the Oberoi Hotel.

Former Edmontonian Michael O’Byrne, one of the late Judge Michael O’Byrne and his wife Eileen’s 11 children (Eileen now lives in Victoria), is counting multiple blessings.

Many years ago, Michael left Edmonton to follow the late Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (also known as Osho). Today, with his brother D’Arcy, he runs the thriving Osho program and publishing house in India.

Michael had just left the restaurant of Mumbai’s Oberoi Hotel in India on Wednesday to return to his room when terrorists attacked the restaurant.

Almost everybody in the dining room was killed.

According to a family member’s report, Michael then heard the hotel fire alarm.

People started walking down from the 17th floor. The elevator was locked.

Michael, fresh off knee surgery, couldn’t take the stairs. He returned to his room.

The fire alarm was thought to be set off by the terrorists. They shot hotel guests as they appeared in the stairwell.

The terrorists ended up on Michael’s floor, stayed there for hours. Again, luck intervened. They did not burst into his room.

The hotel contacted O’Byrne before the phone went dead, advising him to stay in his room, stay in the safest place, the bathtub.

And so he waited, some 50 to 60 hours through smoke and drifting gunpowder residue until Indian special forces rescued him and other surviving guests.

“We are all so blessed and happy that Michael made it outside,” says his last remaining brother in Edmonton, lawyer and businessman Casey O’Byrne.

History repeats itself with fatal intent in terrorist attacks on Mumbai last week. I fear they are strategically aimed to accomplish what was tried nearly seven years ago but failed only by the grace of a momentary pause of human reflection before pushing the button of nuclear war.

On 13 December 2001, five al-Qaeda backed jihadists from Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammad terrorist groups operating from mountain bases in the Pakistani-held part of Kashmir, infiltrated India and stormed it’s parliament building compound in New Delhi. Their goal was a suicide mission to decapitate the Indian government in enfilade of AK-47 bullets and by blasts of suicide body bombs that would enrage India enough to start a nuclear war with Pakistan.

Indian security forces checked their charge at Parliament’s threshold, killing all five terrorists. Five policemen, a Parliament security guard, and a gardener were also killed, and 18 others injured. No parliamentarian was killed, however, the damage was done to tenuous Indo-Pakistani relations. Few in the West who at that time, reeled from 9/11 al-Qaeda terrorist strikes on the US just three months earlier, understood or even cared to understand how far more dangerous were the consequences of this terror attack on India. It was clear to me, at least, having spent much time in and out of South Asia since 1980 that Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammad were trying to goad India into a border standoff with Pakistan — both being nuclear powers. Their aim was part of Usama bin Laden’s grand strategy to destabilize the region with an Indo-Pakistani military crisis that might lead to a nuclear war. Millions in Pakistan would be sacrificed for global Jihad. Dozens of millions of non-Muslim Indians would be killed as well. Terrorist organizations in the western Pakistani mountains and in Kashmir, up-wind of the fallout and devastated cities would be free to flourish and metastasize in the post-war chaos.

The attack of five terrorists on Indian Parliament was far more serious than any hijacked jet taking down the World Trade Center or crashing into the Western wall of the Pentagon in Washington DC.

The Indo-Pakistani standoff from December 2001 to June 2002 remains at the time of this writing the most potentially dangerous military crisis of this troubled opening decade of the 21st century. Indeed, it remains the closest humanity came since the Cuban Missile Crisis to suffering a nuclear war. The human masses on both sides worked up to a feverish nationalistic state were keen for it. Vast demonstrations in Indian and Pakistani cities lobbied their legislators hard for a nuclear edged stab at the other irritant. Only the “nay” vote of the then Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee prevented a nuclear punitive strike during the final weeks of the South Indian dry season. India’s military leadership pushed hard for a decision before the Monsoon rains came. Flooded mountain passes would inhibit a full-scale conventional invasion of Pakistani held parts of Kashmir after Indian jets unloaded the atom bombs and a few dozen Agni missiles bearing nuclear warheads fell on Pakistani cities and military bases. Tempers run hot in the 40-degrees Celsius dog days of June before bracing Monsoonal rains cool passions as well as temperatures.

Dial destiny forward. Here we are again, potentially a few weeks or months from a new terrorist triggered nuclear crisis.

On the night of 26 November 2008, well-armed and well-trained Islamic terrorists based in Pakistan infiltrate and strike several high-profile targets in Mumbai’s financial district. Explosions thudded along the Mazagaon docks where terrorist commandos in zodiac rafts disembarked from the hijacked fishing trawler Kuber. They had seized it in international waters after sailing out of Karachi, Pakistan, 38-hours earlier, in a smaller boat undetected by the Indian Navy. They killed the crew of four and forced the captain to set a course for Mumbai waters. They killed him too, once he brought the Kuber to anchor a few miles off Mumbai’s shoreline.

The terrorist commandos landed and fanned out through the streets. Two cut down Indian police, stealing their rover, launching into a spree of drive-by strafing of crowds in busy downtown Mumbai streets. In the late evening hours of 26 November 2008, gunmen sprayed bullets into stampeding crowds of thousands in the sprawling Shivaji Railway Terminus. The wounded brought to Cama Hospital were drilled again by bullets and grenade shrapnel. Mumbai’s downtown police headquarters was hit. Heavily armed terrorists broke into a Chabad house, a Jewish outreach center run by Chabad-Lubavitch orthodox Jews, shooting down a young rabbi and his wife along with five hostages. Bollywood Cinema crowds coming out of theaters were hit. Bullets and grenades sprayed the fallen dead with the food of life in popular Leopold’s cafe. The premier hotels of downtown where most western tourists and business people converge, the Oberoi and iconic Taj Mahal, were set ablaze, wherein terror stalked smoke filled halls and the dark warrens and rabbit hole rooms as hunters of jihad looked for their hiding prey.

The hell of Mumbai’s 9/11 attacks lasted the bulk of three days before Indian paramilitary and Indian Army commando Special Forces in what they would call Operation Black Tornado silenced the last terrorist. White and brown, Muslim or meditator had been coldly and indiscriminately slaughtered and wounded by the hundreds. The death toll is up to 188, with at least 33 foreign nationals and just under 300 seriously wounded or injured. Some of the dazed survivors I saw by chance on a BBC photo being gently ushered by police out of the smoking ruins of the Oberoi are personal friends of mine and fellow travelers on the path meditation.

I currently seek to know who else of my friends and acquaintances was there among the living or under the tarps for the dead.

One terrorist survived to tell his tale to Indian Intelligence Officers, and I dare say he’s using his words as the one weapon left remaining in his possession. His unsheathed and sharpened tongue readily willing to relay evidence of a Pakistani source of his attack could bring on a new military crisis between India and Pakistan. Not only were these men of Jihad well trained in weapons and commando-style operations in the Pakistani terror camps, but they were also trained to play a psych-war game, if surviving, explaining in detail to those in India, just how involved Pakistan was in their plans to hit Mumbai. Beware the tongue of terrorism for it will fan passions of Hindu fundamentalists on the streets and in Parliament to a new war fever pitch once again.

The interrogated has so far not hit his target. Both Pakistani and Indian military spokesmen officially deny seeing any troop reinforcements detected from their opposite along the Line of Control — the militarized no-man’s land dividing Indian-held from Pakistani-held disputed Kashmir. For now, the nuclear nationalism is on the rise only in the streets and not in the trenches along the mountainous Hindu Kush or in the parliaments of Islamabad and New Delhi.

Another scenario is looming. The Indian government demands Pakistan seek and destroy those terrorist camps at once and hand over to Indian justice a list of high-profile terrorist leaders it has incarcerated responsible for ordering previous attacks on Indian soil. If Pakistan does not comply the Indian government says it will “leave all options on the table” for a retaliatory response.

In Part Two of Mumbai 9/11, we will return to points I made in an article written on 31 December 2001 concerning the four Indo-Pakistani wars predicted by Mahatma Gandhi. There’s just one war left to fight. It could be coming soon. It is the one Gandhi feared would be the end of South Asia.

Osho in Greece, 1986

India is on our minds these days, what with Islamo-Fascist terrorist attacks on hotels, a train station, a hospital and a Jewish center in Mumbai. The attacks have prophetic significance. I will soon deliver a comprehensive report on India’s 9/11 terrorist event and where it takes us next.

In Predictions for 2008, I already indicated where “next” might be going nearly a year before it happened. The bloodshed in Mumbai taking place during the American Thanksgiving Holiday is the first step in a new global crisis that I predicted would appear in the year 2008. The terrorists aim to bring on a new Indo-Pakistani border standoff dragging Pakistan down into social, political breakdown and chaos.

A far more significant event took place on Thanksgiving Day holiday that the media, engrossed in the Mumbai terror has almost completely overlooked. American mystic Adi Da Samraj (aka Bubba Free John, or Da Free John) has died on this, America’s unique national-quasi-religious holiday. Thousands of his devotees from across the world are at this moment converging on the Fijian island of Naitamba to partake in a meditation vigil around the lifeless body of their master who had apparently suffered a massive heart attack on 27 November 2008.

Many of them hold hope that Adi Da, who they believe is the greatest of yogic masters, will re-enter his lifeless body after three days. To anyone who has trekked on spiritual pilgrimages through India, as I have, you learn of stories of great masters suddenly falling dead and remaining without a pulse for three days before miraculously coming back to life. Sai Baba of Shirdi (1835-1918) is said to have accomplished this feat because of his Yogic powers. Perhaps Adi Da will do the same?

I am sorry to predict that this will not be the case for Adi Da. He is, as the Buddhists say, “gateh gateh, par gateh, pare gateh Bodhisvaha gateh.”

He’s gone, gone, completely gone from his corporeal form.

I have mentioned and quoted Adi Da in Millennium Book of Prophecy and Messiahs: the Visions and Prophecies of the Second Coming. Adi Da shared a vision with G.I. Gurdjieff, P.D. Ouspensky, J. Krishnamuri and Osho, of the current birth pangs set to release out of the travails of the 21th century a balanced and harmonious New Humanity. The year 2008 marks the first contractions of the century-long travail.

The passing of Adi Da Samraj brings to mind my first-hand experience of the great let-go (Mahasamadhi) of another spiritual master nearly 19 years ago.

I inserted the following account of my experience of Osho’s passing in a commentary for Century 4 Quatrain 31 of Nostradamus’ book “Les Propheties” written back in the 1550s. I wish to present it again here as an offering of condolence and love to all those thousands of Adi Da devotees who are undergoing this most significant moment in a master-disciple relationship: the physical connection becoming an immortal connection.

Par ses disciples estre immortel semond,
Yeux au midy, en seins mains, corps au feu.

The Moon in the middle of the night over the high mountain,
The young sage alone with his mind has seen it.
His disciples invite him to become immortal
His eyes at the middle, his hands (folded) on his breast, his body in the fire.

We see Nostradamus describing the moment of awakening experienced by a young man who is alone at midnight. He has seen it — the truth of being — which transcends the dialectics of words and is beyond any duality.

The prophecy jumps into the future: the sage is no longer alone. He has many disciples who, by opening their hearts and minds, imbibe his existential truths. His body may die, but his essence, his immortality, lives on in his disciples. In some secret manner the sage will dissolve himself into them.

Two possible clues are hiding in the double pun of midy: either it means the sage faces south, in his temple or in meetings with disciples, or the word can mean “meridian” or “middle.” One, therefore, can picture the young sage as a mystic from the East whose eyes move up toward the middle of his brow — his third eye — when he rises into a mystical ecstasy.

Line 4 could contain more complex layers of meaning, some that your author may have witnessed first hand when he was invited to participate in the funeral celebration and ritual cremation of one of this century’s most controversial mystics, Osho (1931-1990).

On the evening of 19 January 1990, the body of Osho was brought into the public meeting hall at the Osho Commune International [situated in Pune, 110 miles east of Mumbai]. Several thousand white-robed followers danced and celebrated in front of the flower-festooned bamboo bier, in the most unusual and happiest funeral I have ever experienced. There were certainly a lot of tears but even in the midst of grief, most of the faces in that hall were filled with a glow of gratitude and love for a man who for them was the most remarkable person they had ever known and loved.

After ten minutes the body was carried off on its final journey to the burning ghats, the simple funerary crematoriums one finds along Indian rivers. Chance would have it that I walked alongside his body all the way to the ghats. I could see him perfectly. Osho didn’t look dead at all. Now I understand the stories about Zen disciples who resisted burning their master’s body until they were sure he was really dead and not just playing a prank. Osho was just lying there. Very transparent, delicate, as if he were glowing from the inside. He was the most alive corpse I had ever seen. I couldn’t believe he was actually dead until one of the pall bearers got a little carried away by the energy of the celebration and his dancing gait made Osho’s head and neck bob about like rubber.

There were between 2,000 to 5,000 thousand people in white [robes] at the ghats. I sat in the first row. I saw the man’s peaceful face for the last time, bathed in the light of electric torches as the final logs and flowers were lowered on to the funeral pyre, to the sounds of musical instruments and thousands of voices singing a stirring devotional song. The verses warmed the cold and humid Indian night air with the words, “Step into the holy fire, walk into the holy flame, oh! Halleluiah! Halleluiah!!” Soon a great flame leapt up from the funeral pyre. Osho’s family was to my right. They were crying like children. His younger brother Amit, in particular, was sobbing with such innocence and beauty that I was carried into his sobs. But even as the tears came I sensed a presence, a heresy, growing inside me. “What are you crying for?” said the heresy (as if it could speak). I felt I was saying goodbye to someone who hadn’t left — couldn’t leave me. For the rest of the night this heresy grew, and along with thousands of others I could not contain my delight.

Let us look again at the quatrain.

Osho claims that his enlightenment took place in a park in Jabalpur, India, when he was alone, sitting under a malshree tree at midnight (in the middle of the night) on 21 March 1953. At the time had just turned 21 years old (the young sage). He was born with five planets in the sign of Capricorn, which in occult astrology is symbolized by a high mountain cutting into the limitless sky. Osho describes enlightenment as a state of “no-mind,” in which one lives in an ultimate state of freedom he also calls blissful aloneness. In the East the mind and the ego are to be witnessed as false phenomenon outside of consciousness until one recognizes the truth of one’s authentic being — which he often referred to as “It.” (The young sage alone with his mind has seen it).

Osho often told his disciples that upon his death “I will dissolve into my people” in what he called the Buddhafield, the next stage in the evolution of human consciousness. This is a collective experience of enlightenment that all equally unique individuals can draw from. The days when people give up their responsibility to saviors are drawing to a close. Rather than the arrival of a Messiah in the 21st century, Osho predicted more of a collective awakening, or impersonal messianic experience. In other words, the Messiah is not coming — he is already hiding under our false egos and programmed behavior. The Messiah is within. Osho once said to Kurt Braun, the author of Rajneeshpuram: the Unwanted Society, that his people would become his autobiography (his disciples will invite him to become immortal).

Dr. Amrito, Osho’s personal physician, once told me that his patient experienced a strange physical phenomenon caused by his enlightenment — he felt constantly on fire inside. Osho was noted for keeping his room temperature at around 40 degrees to keep cool (his body in the fire). I can attest to the fact that he gave his daily discourses facing south in the commune’s meeting hall. He regularly could be seen with his eyes fixed in the middle of his brow in ecstasy. And his body on the funeral bier lay with its hands folded in the fire of the cremation pit.

Does this quatrain refer to the life and death of Osho? The one who knows [Nostradamus] lies buried in the wall of a Salonaise Church.

I am a practitioner of the Science of Self-Observation. It is because of this inner discipline of watching the movements and changes of the body, the thoughts of the mind and the ever-changeable weathers of emotion that I have discovered what is the engine that makes prophecy so “predictable.” You have read over the years my forays from time to “tome” inserting views, visions and values rediscovered through a life of active meditation begun 28 years ago when I received instruction from my meditation teacher in India.

A common feeling arises in us, in times of trial, in uncertain times, when what we thought and had as “the good life” is crowded out by a new life gripped by financial, emotional or spiritual crisis. And we must confront an inner confession:

“I no longer want to be here in this world.”

One hears confessed this feeling often from people on the path of meditation too. My fellow travelers on the path to self-awareness will say, indeed I have said it more than once, “I don’t want to be here anymore. I’d like to leave this mortal coil with all its strifes and struggles, its injustices and just be eternity’s light sparkle.

“Ah! To exist here no more. To go to sleep and never again wake up here but be instead blissfully delivered to Nirvana.”

You can replace mine with your favorite label for blissful elsewhere whatever your projection of enlightenment or paradise might be: delivered to heaven, to Jesus, to whatever suits your mind.

Most may not admit to themselves this desire for worldly egress or certainly not to others, and loved ones, for the alarm it might ring, for its bitter taint of a suicidal-sounding tendency. Probably more than ever people around the world in the grip of new and uncertain times regard the gathering darkness approaching over the near future’s horizon and wish to be delivered from what is coming, or what is becoming of this world they once understood. The times of plentiful resources, bubble credit, a stable climate, bountiful food and fresh water sources and the days dwindling of gainful employment that builds bridges to one’s life goals and dreams, all feel as the holiday season of thanksgiving approaches, like they hearken more from times left behind than times approcahing before us.

Rather than be alarmed that I might harbor an existentially depressing desire to no longer be here in this darkening world, I celebrate this feeling as the emergence, the first indication of a reawakening spiritual intelligence inside, long suppressed and dormant, that not only knows but “IS” the kind of intelligence, love and consciousness that perceives a different, better world is possible. As the age of uncertainty overshadows the future, I lighten my eyes with this feeling to be liberated. I make intention to live liberation’s possibility and in so doing make real in my own small part, in my own little life an oasis of that better world view in actions, in words and in deeds. The deed of writing this to you now is a herald of such messages and deeds to come.

If I no longer want to be here, if I want to be released from being here, I know now the way out is to really “be” here.

When we are here and now, with our full life force, love, intelligence, wisdom, celebration of this life, that is the way beyond this life.

We don’t want to be here because we have not been here enough.

We have not been totally here-and-now enough to move on.

If you desire to be elsewhere then be HERE, completely, fully, as an effect of bliss without a cause. Elsewhere never comes. It is ever “here.”

This state of witnessing “here” consciousness is what my meditation teacher used to call “The Noah’s Ark of Consciousness.”

No better vessel of inner peace I know exists to calmly sail the storms of the coming two months of historic lightning shocks. By the end of January 2009, the world that we knew, economically, globally perhaps for some of you spiritually too, will be overtaken by terrifying and equally exciting evolutionary times.

More on this inner ark in later messages as the events of the next eight weeks sunder us from much of what we once knew as economics, politics and society’s past.
